There’s a lot of construction happening. A business to clean up that debris is smart to do. To generate post-construction cleanup leads fast, you gotta first find where all your potential customers are actively searching for cleanup services.
It is easy to think you do not have the time or energy to market your post-construction cleanup business. You probably have enough to do with running your business, and we get it because we’ve been there.
However, marketing is the scope of what will bring your clients and deals, allowing your business to grow and boost its success so that you can expand.
Many opportunities are available, and many local businesses and homes would be willing to hire someone to clean their homes. You need to learn to access those prospects to implement the best lead generation strategies for your niche and follow their results so you can choose to keep them or try new ones.
When it comes to cleaning business promotion, there is no single answer. You will need to utilize more than one tactic and ensure they are generating the desired results.
Now, if you are a company whose schedule may be complete, you should still be open to new business opportunities and potential clients. Customers change and so you need to be ready for them.
A steady influx of clients will be key, and you can always think about expanding your post-construction cleanup business as you get more clients.
That being said, let’s dive into the strategies we know work excellent for this niche.
Get to Know Your Audience
Begin by researching the people your cleaning company is trying to reach since not everyone will be a good target for your company.
You may find your potential audience in a particular area or with specific types of business owners. It can also be established by looking at whom your competitors are communicating with.
While you work on finding them, you need to learn as much as you can from each audience you identify.
You can craft a more relatable and personal message by understanding the demographics of your target audience (age, gender, and location). This will save you time and money as well since you will have a better concept of what they’re expecting and what lead generation strategies can work better.
Make a Brand
You will be more memorable if you have a logo and a color scheme that you can use in all communications with potential clients and the public.
Although it may seem overwhelming, creating a logo is essential to help increase recognition for your business and is something you should have done by this point.
You can think of Mcdonald’s or Pepsi. Most people immediately think of the Pepsi globe and the golden arches. Your logo for your cleaning business should be easily identifiable and relate to your services.
Thus, work on having an easily identifiable logo. For it, it is vital to limit your choices of colors to just a few that you can reuse in all communications.
Blue and white are associated with purity, cleanliness, and calm, while orange and yellow bring out optimism and joy. A good brand will improve the lead quality generated by your business.
Of course, a brand involves more than a logo, and therefore, you need to worry about your motto, message, and how you want people to perceive you in every possible way.
Distribute Flyers in Your Area
Many people are searching for cleaners. All they need to know is your name so they can look for you or call you right away with the information you gave them.
Flyers can be very effective for this type of service since you’re a local company offering its services to the residents or companies nearby—anyone who requires some cleanup after a project.
With a noticeboard, you can post flyers in your local supermarket, community center, or anywhere else. Flyers are good sources of high-quality leads, and they help you get your desired clients since they are a more direct approach that doesn’t need certain leverage.
If you have the funds, you can print out something to hand out to people or pay someone to deliver it door-to-door. Include information about your services, contact information, and company name. It is vital to have a professional email address and a phone number for this and your business overall.
Flyering local communities are possible by purchasing door hangers.
Although you are not permitted to place your business flyers inside private mailboxes or on doors, they can be placed on the front door. Door hangers are less likely to fly away and can be used to communicate your cleaning business’ information.
Social Media Is a Massive Way to Spread Your Brand’s Message
Social media, such as Instagram, LinkedIn, and Facebook, is a great way to promote your business, reach people, and generate leads when used properly.
Many look at these platforms as a way to bring lead after lead. However, they can be used to keep current customers informed or as a way to attract new ones.
It is vital to keep your messages concise and relevant to be effective and get the results you want with any profile you create. You can market your cleaning business by using before and after photos.
Depending on the platform you use, you will need to adjust your content as everything depends on the format most people choose for them.
Instagram is much more visual, while Facebook can be a combination of text and pictures. Meanwhile, LinkedIn is much better for blogging or providing valuable information in the form of long posts and articles.
Pick wisely based on the social media that will work best for you and the time you can invest in each one.
Here are some factors you can take notes of to make a well-informed decision:
- Facebook allows you to create a business page, and users can follow it. You can also post information about your services and operating hours on your business page.
- Twitter allows you to create your business page. This page will enable you to place paid advertisements and reach more customers.
- LinkedIn is a professional network and an easy way to post job opportunities. This is an excellent way for the post-construction cleanup company to get noticed.
- Instagram is the primary platform for social media influencers. These people have a large following and often get paid to promote products and businesses. You can work with influencers to promote your cleaning business.
Refer A Friend Program
You are likely to get more business through word-of-mouth since people trust their friends and loved ones.
Refer-a-friend programs reward successful referrals and incentivize customers to refer you to their family and friends. They win something while also bringing clients your way.
You could offer twenty percent off your following cleaning coupon or two hours of free time if they sign up three friends. Just make sure the rewards or deals you offer are affordable based on the number of people they refer.
Friend recommendations are the most trusted form of advertising among consumers. Therefore, it is an important tactic to get the word out about your company and implement it for this niche in particular.
You will close the margin with your competitors and make sure your company is staying on top of the game.
You Must Use Digital Marketing
With its ability to target specific audiences in distinct regions, digital marketing can be an excellent lead generation tool for cleaning business owners, and you will notice that besides social media, everything is digital in today’s world.
Paid posts may be an option through services like Yelp or Google AdWords so you can boost your company quicker.
If you aren’t sure where to start, how to do it, or you’re already having problems with it, it might be worthwhile to consult your digital advertising sales team if you are unsure how to do it effectively.
If you don’t have a team to rely on yet, you can contact several sales teams in your area. We know most owners want to save as much money as they can, and our goal is to offer you solutions you can handle alone.
However, a sales team or at least a professional will help greatly to make this business work, so you want to invest a bit for this to go smoothly.
Keep in mind that digital marketing requires a website for your business or at most one page for your customers. This can be done quickly by you considering how many builders are there.
Just make sure you understand everything about domains, hosting, and how you have to make your website responsive and add valuable information while worrying about navigation.
SEO (Search Engine Organization) for Post-Construction Cleanup
Two reasons every business should have its website are:
- You can use Google search to generate leads.
- Demonstrate that you are legitimate.
Websites are the new business card. People interested in your business and whether you’re legitimate will often check you out to see if there’s a website instead of calling you like before.
A website can also help you reach people who may not have heard of your company but may need your services.
However, they will find your site only if it is well-optimized, and this is when SEO comes in handy.
This is all about creating a marketing strategy for your site or online presence alone in order to rank in search engines.
SEO is focused on what you know as keywords, consistent information, showing your location, connecting with customers, providing value, and much more.
There’s a lot to cover, and you will need to take a course or two about how to optimize all your profiles. This is mainly focused on your website, but others like your GMB profile and social media profiles will require it as well.
Stand Out From the Rest
Whatever lead generation strategy you choose to use for your post-construction cleanup business, it is vital that you emphasize your unique selling points (USPs). If you are not familiar with them, these are the qualities making you stand out from the rest.
If you focus on eco-friendly cleaning using all-natural cleaners, this can be a huge differentiator. Ensure people know if you have positioned yourself as a low-cost service or premium. It would help if you also promoted your unique advantages.
Anything that is a benefit or good point for customers, you can add it to this USPs and ensure you are getting out there.
Ensure your website clearly states that you have general liability insurance or cleaners insurance.
Clients will be happy to know that you are insured in the event of an unexpected. Other factors like licenses or permits can be added as well, along with details of your services and some social proof.
Invest in CRM Software that is Effective
CRM software (customer relationship management) can help you schedule and track clients more effectively and keep contact information to streamline residential owners undergoing a construction project and require your services soon.
WorkWave software allows you to maintain a customer list easily, send estimates and quotes, schedule appointments for one-time or recurring visits, and assign work orders to staff.
However, you have other options available that can be free while your company grows or only require a little investment that won’t affect your budget.
Also, you don’t need to use this software for residential clients only. It works for all the deals you could close and will make your life easier regardless of being a commercial or residential prospect.
Just set it properly, and you will get all your dates organized.
Utilize Email Marketing
Email marketing is exceptionally saturated today, but there is a reason for this and why, despite people using it, it remains one of the best lead generation strategies.
First, it is an affordable and quick way to reach your target audience since people continue using their email addresses and inboxes to receive relevant and long information.
Second, you can nurture prospects and close them as leads later without having to rely on the first impression on your website only.
Finally, a conversion website is one of the best methods to expand your network with this email strategy, and having both helps boost your efforts.
Many will recommend you buy email lists to increase your email reach beyond those who have visited your site. However, we don’t find this particularly useful or a good idea at all.
Most email addresses provided during those purchases are not qualified prospects or, to be more specific, they might be, but none of them signed for your newsletter or allowed you to send emails periodically.
If they notice they never did it, they are most likely going to mark you as spam or block your address, driving your account to be suspended or considered a bad source as many people are bound to do the same with you.
Now, email marketing is not new, and we know you may have been using it for a while. Even so, there are many ways to make your campaigns more effective.
It does not matter if you still send a single newsletter out to your customers, but instead of segmenting them and personalizing the campaigns according to their segments, that is an excellent place to start.
Automated email campaigns are a massive way to retain customers and promote your business. Email automation is much easier than you think and will save you lots of time.
Networking Is Crucial for Your Business
It is crucial to possess a solid online and advertising strategy. However, it is equally important to meet potential customers face-to-face and see how they see you beyond the screen.
You can refer potential clients to you and new customers by making a personal connection with people that are either interested in your services right away or those that can recommend you to some of their customers when they aren’t able to deliver the service or don’t offer the same as you.
To meet professionals in your area, join your local chamber of Commerce. You might find potential clients or grow your network by just getting out there and talking.
Participating in community events is another excellent way to carry out your lead generation campaign to expand your network. It will help you focus more on your target audience as well and ensure you are going in the right direction.
Just make this a constant occurrence and don’t assist to a few events or meetings. You need to be out there. Not all the time, but quite often.
Maintain Your Reputation
It is crucial to have a trustworthy post-construction cleanup business, and for it, you need to build and maintain your own reputation offline and online.
Establishing good practices for maintaining your cleaning business’s reputation will help you earn more repeat customers and referrals. In fact, reviews will come more naturally if your company is top-notch when delivering its services.
Your staff and you must listen to your customers’ needs and then work together to meet them for this to work out.
Customer satisfaction is the best way to grow your network and create a recurring customer program. You can attain this by being honest and transparent with your customers and employees.
Your employees are an excellent advertisement for your business and can interact with customers by speaking well of it.
Everything is about having good values and ensuring you’re the company they want to rely on for the first time or consecutive ones.
You Can Think Outside the Box
While you may already have a website built and a Facebook Business Page created, it is worth considering innovative advertising strategies to help market your business to potential clients.
- You can change your car into a billboard.
- You can purchase branded magnets for both your vehicle and your employees’ cars.
These ones above—which are pretty much the same marketing strategy—will allow you to be seen by potential customers and others who might not otherwise have the opportunity to learn about you.
Place your business card at local businesses as well.
You can get your business cards free at many local restaurants, gas stations, or other small shops. Ask local business owners if they can offer you some promotional assistance.
One you cannot miss is blogging!
Writing informative blogs about your cleaning business will improve your Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and drive more visitors to your website.
Ensure you maintain your branding and provide contact details for any implemented outside-the-box marketing cleaning business methods.
Ask For Reviews
When you develop your marketing plan and promote your company, honest reviews from past and current customers can help you build credibility.
According to recent statistics, eighty-four percent of customers read reviews about local businesses before purchasing or deciding to hire a service.
Negative reviews can hurt your cleaning business. However, if you work hard to improve customer satisfaction, it will be positive. In the past, customers only left reviews if they had a bad experience. But customers now leave more positive ones in comparison.
These reviews should be managed on three mains online platforms:
- Google is today’s most used search engine. Positive reviews on Google will allow you to rank higher in searches.
- Yelp can be a great tool to market your cleaning business. Many consumers still use it today, as it was one of the first review sites.
- Positive Facebook reviews can increase your visibility and help you rank higher in search engines.
Being Certified Brings More Clients
Although it is unnecessary to be a certified cleaner for your business, it will help you stand out.
International Sanitary Supply Association (ISSA) was established to unify cleaning companies and establish best practices to provide safe and sanitary solutions for customers and corporations.
Your cleaning company must meet six areas of the best management to apply for CIMS certification through the ISSA.
- Quality Systems.
- Delivery of Service.
- Human Resources.
- Health, Safety, and Environment.
- Management Commitment.
- Green Building.
Although there are fees for applying, assessing your business, and maintaining membership, this certification is a great way to market your cleaning business.
Now, the requirements can vary considering you are a cleaning company, but for post-construction projects only.
This means you are not really involved with close spaces or buildings, but rather with dirt and all the disasters involving construction.
For this, you can also get a certification, and you will need to get familiar with the same organization, but make sure to determine the right institutions for your niche and request assistance for further certifications.
Make a Promotional Video
Although it may seem daunting to make a promotional video, it can be a great way to market yourself, as videos tend to be one of the favorite formats for people.
Promo videos let you tell your customers what you have to offer without having them scroll through a website.
YouTube and Facebook have made it possible for anyone to create videos today, and how we have smartphones that do the trick makes things more affordable and easier.
YouTube users are not constantly searching for the best quality videos. Customers often look for friendly faces who can answer questions and provide information. So, don’t feel too pressured with all this.
Some info you can include in your videos is how you handle post-construction cleaning and how it involves driving around and searching for construction sites.
Although it is not everyone’s cup of tea, you can still walk around the site and speak to the manager. Just show what you do from every angle and summarize it in a video.
The Proper Pricing Can Help You Win the Job
Prices for post-construction cleaning jobs vary considerably. It would help if you first understood your company’s production rate and set a good price for your services that makes you competitive.
The production rate is how you can clean many square feet in an hour. Track every job you do after construction, and calculate the average production rate for each phase. A 150-square-foot final clean might take an hour, for example.
You can calculate the average cleaning time for each phase by knowing the production rates and cleanable square footage. This will help you calculate the job price and how many cleaners are needed to complete the job within the timeframe.
Two ways to price cleaning jobs after construction are available as well:
- If you understand how long it takes to clean and your hourly price, pricing by the hour can be simple. The market will determine the cost and how much work you put into it too. This could be anywhere from $25 to $50 an hour.
- Post-construction cleaning can be priced per square foot because each job is unique, and each location is different. But make sure the client is someone that could afford it before offering this option.
The Post Construction Cleaning Calculator simplifies the pricing process and allows you to calculate your profit and expenses for each job.
You can gain access if you are part of The Janitorial Store since it is free for them.
The Local Lead Generation Process for Your Post-Construction Cleanup Business
All right! So, everything is about building properties and generating leads. But how does the process actually take place? Are there other steps I need to know?
The steps I mention below are what students from our local lead generation program follow to generate leads for businesses like yourself. So I’ll help you see what we do. And how if you join our program, you can simply generate leads for your own business (unless you want to start a side hustle and build a laptop lifestyle business).
Essentially, our lead generation can be divided into four steps:
The first is prospecting. You need to take the time to do market research on a niche (industry) and determine how many phone-driven businesses are there.
Keep in mind that this is local research as you need to know how many companies need leads. For example, you may search for “plumbing services Youngstown OH.”
You will find dozens or even hundreds of businesses trying to get themselves in front of the customers by ranking on Map Listings, organic results, and even Ad.
The second step, building. When you find a niche (plumbing, tree services, a software company, real estate…), you will need to start building your digital properties. You don’t need to be an expert in HTML or coding. It can be easy with the right tools.
The third step is now taking time to rank your lead gen website. With the site done, you need to work on SEO strategies and start dominating those Google search results. If you’re new to SEO, it stands for Search Engine Optimization.
To keep it simple, it consists of the entire process of growing a company’s visibility on search engines like Google and generating organic traffic. And remember this, local lead generation is part of the strategies.
Moving on to step four, once you rank the site, you will start getting your ROI and profits. You only need to rent it out to a local business interested in the leads the site generates. You can offer a couple of free leads to their move on with the actual pay per lead.
To review steps 1-4 above, I described it to a normal student who is building a lead gen business to help local service providers generate more calls. But replace the student with you as the business owner. And replace sending the leads to a business to simply siphoning the leads to your personal business.
By the way, fun fact, about 20% of our students in our local lead gen program are actually business owners who went through the program. And they use the skillsets we teach to generate leads for their own business.
An Example of Lead Generation: Home Advisor
You must be thinking, “if lead generation sounds so good so far, how come I haven’t seen any company?” That’s the thing; there are many out there. You just don’t know they are dedicated to it.
HomeAdvisor is one of the best examples you can find on the Internet as it is a top lead generation company that has spent millions building its brand but also earned even more zeros for this same reason.
They started small as everyone else but invested in building their brand awareness to make people who are looking for home services go to their website and find what they need. They are over 75% of people’s first choice when they need those services.
If you don’t get HomeAdvisor that much or need a refresh, users need to submit their information to request a service and get a professional or expert who can provide it.
HomeAdvisor’s job is to share your information, which makes you a lead, with local companies so they can contact you and offer the service you’re requesting. For sharing this lead information, HomeAdvisor gets paid by the companies. This happens for every single lead they send to multiple businesses.
Business owners who don’t have marketing skills or don’t even know how to have any online presence will always rely on those pages to list their services. They will save time and effort, but companies like HomeAdvisor can make them spend lots of money as leads aren’t exclusive (one lead is sent to multiple companies after all).
Using Facebook Ads aka Paid Ad Platforms: Do They Generate Leads?
They DO generate leads. If not, no one would use them.
However, you need to remember two facts:
- Paid ads or platforms can be expensive.
- They don’t generate “natural” leads.
Whenever someone sees or clicks in one of those ads, over 80% of them did it by accident or are trying to close/report it.
Why? Because they aren’t looking for those services. At least not at the moment.
What those ads do instead is interrupt their time on the platforms. Users aren’t there to find companies or businesses unless they are searching for a specific company’s user, and for that, there’s a search bar. This is why it is hard to convert them to actual customers who will show interest in the companies’ services. Also, you’re limited by a budget.
When using lead generation, everything is organic. You aren’t forcing others to pay attention to your business but rather being there when they need you. This is why Google’s organic traffic will always beat paid ads, and the reason companies continue investing in it, which is a lot cheaper as well.
What Is Local SEO?
Don’t worry… I didn’t get it at first either. Following the short explanation, local SEO focuses on scaling businesses’ visibility on search engines. However, this is only for those who serve their communities face-to-face.
What does this mean?
Experts and professionals like painters, plumbers, and dentists (but not only them) offer their services to their local customers. Why? Because they can’t deliver them unless they are located in the same area of their customers.
To make sure those businesses get more leads, you need to rank them locally by claiming the business listing on Google to place them on Map Listings. Local SEO also involves online reviews, citation management, and how you manage your entire online presence in the local area.
If you are going to bet on lead gen, you need to adapt yourself to today’s world: The Internet.
Keep in mind that although traditional channels and methods like billboards, warm calls, and pamphlets still work, they aren’t part of your tools. Whenever someone needs a service, they go to Google and search for it.
“Dentist in Miami” or “plumbing services in Orlando,” etc. And you can keep coming up with services or professionals people need and look for. Thus, you need to make sure you’re using Google to get the companies in front of their clients.
Users will always click on the first search results (those near the top), and many of them will be either Ad links (people paid to place their websites there), Map Listing, and then you get websites. Almost all of them are your goal and where you should always aim to place yourself.
Can My Post-Construction Cleanup Business Utilize a Local Lead Generation Strategy?
If you want customers, you better know you need it. Following the previous explanation, lead gen is all about placing businesses in front of their customers, choosing them over their competitors.
Put it simply – it’s all about closing deals and having clients for those companies to make money. The main difference with the usual methods companies use for this is how lead generation approaches different channels to get them in the right place of the market to get customers.
Those channels are all focused on the Internet as most people are searching for products but also services across the net. The issue is that the Internet is way too broad, and businesses don’t know how to place themselves. They usually try, but they get one common result: losing money and time.
How Powerful Are Organic Post-Construction Cleanup Leads from Google?
For companies looking for customers, it’s everything. For you? Pretty much the same. When you build a business with digital properties, you get to make thousands of dollars a month.
This isn’t a “get started today and get rich tomorrow” thing, but it is HIGHLY scalable, and ROI + positive results are guaranteed. Learning a fairly decent and very needed set of skills to create your digital properties and start ranking them on Google is required.
I have invested in several online businesses over the years, and if there’s something uncertain, whether you will get your ROI or not, even more than the actual profit.
However, this business moved my earnings from five figures a year to a month in ONLY passive income while sitting comfortably at home.
On my laptop. Anywhere. Anytime.
You can look at one of the first sites I built back in 2016, and it continues making me over $1.000+ every month. The best part is that I don’t need to touch it or the rest I’ve built over the years, just like this digital property.
What Makes Lead Generation SO Alluring?
Here it goes: you can work from home.
The main issue with regular business opportunities is how much you need to invest in staff, equipment, or rent to have a place to sell your products or offer your services.
We all know the hassles of traditional businesses that involve regular expenses, which are extremely high. Can you afford it? I don’t think so, and even if you can, is it worth it? Now, it isn’t only about the money. You also need to put in a lot of work, and it isn’t only during the first couple of months or years. Usually, it is as long as you continue running it.
You can save yourself those headaches and bone-breaking tasks and expenses with lead gen since it is more about generating leads with digital channels—mainly websites.
Websites can be VERY cheap to build, and with many tools online, you get to do it in a couple of hours instead of days. Any virtual or digital business is scalable and won’t need constant maintenance.
So, let’s summarize this:
- You save money in regular expenses with traditional and most online businesses as what you need is yourself and digital properties (websites).
- You can bet on passive income.
- There’s no need to hire more people to get started.
- You can generate leads in multiple industries, which allows you to work on any niche you want.
