Electrical contractors & companies understand the importance on why there should be a focus on funneling electrician leads daily. Since we’re living in the age of the internet, companies can’t continue to use antiquated methods for the ways consumers shop nowadays. Companies must use the newest strategies for marketing.

Businesses are all about online and offline marketing, but the first one has gained more relevance and importance over the last decade. As a result, it isn’t wild to say that electrical contractors and companies are nothing without it, just like the rest of businesses.

However, it isn’t simple to work around it and achieve the task of generating electrical leads. Instead, it is probably one of the most challenging tasks due to how hard it can be to compete with hundreds of people in results, even when you decide to focus your efforts locally.

The good news is that we’re here for you and ready to provide the tips and strategies you need to start generating more.

Therefore, if you’re eager to know how to boost your company and finally seal more deals as an electrical business, you just need to continue reading!

But First, Why Is Online Marketing Key for Your Company?

Electricians can reach more people with Internet marketing than traditional marketing strategies we all know about (papers, advertising on radio stations, and more).

You could waste time and money trying to attract leads that aren’t interested in your services without a solid lead generation strategy. Usually, electrical companies and businesses from all niches are spending lots of resources with traditional strategies.

Online lead generation allows your business to focus on attracting the best prospects and save time and money in the process.

It is crucial to have a strategy that allows you to narrow down the potential leads at each stage so that you only have the best potential clients.

Lead generation for electricians should be centered on digital channels. These channels like search engines, email, and social media can help you get qualified leads for your business and return on your investment without worrying about your time or resources.

This doesn’t mean there aren’t risks, but you will get the best out of your efforts and money.

With this in mind, we can move on with the tips and ideas you can (and should) include in your strategy.

Content Marketing Doesn’t Get Old

Unlike content for social media or similar platforms, this one refers to everything you post on your site, from blog posts and infographics to videos and a few online guides for your audience.

Working around the content you post can bring many leads as long as it is valuable and take the time to share your knowledge and design content that can be found easily as well with specific keywords and other parameters (SEO, which we will look at later).

When someone searches for electrical information online and finds a helpful post on your blog, they are more likely to recall you when they need professional assistance.

You’ll be the first person they call when they need an electrician for their next project, without a doubt.

You can also take this opportunity to provide special content, like the online guides we mentioned, or just your most valuable content by asking site visitors to enter their email addresses in order to gain access.

This will allow you to grow your email list and provide information to those who have expressed an interest in your services.

Another aspect you should always remember is: Consistency is key to content marketing.

You will create a bond with your audience by consistently publishing content. Not only will search engines be searching for your updates, but they will also look for them.

You will give them the impression you are friendly and open to helping, not just selling your services.

Your email list will grow if you post regular content, and if you feel this is too overwhelming despite the benefits it brings, you can always hire professionals to help you if you’re not a skilled writer or don’t have time for it.

For very low rates, you can find a cheap writer through a variety of freelance websites.

You can either hire someone to do the writing or do it yourself. But search engine optimization (SEO) is what you need to be focusing on if you want to rank high on Google.

Email Marketing Is Alive

Email is being often underestimated just because there are other alternatives. However, think about it, who doesn’t use email to send more information, contact formal companies or maybe just receive news? No one? That’s what we thought.

This is why an email subscription form on your site could be a great way to generate leads.

This is especially true if you offer discounts or other useful content in return for your subscribers’ email addresses.

The people who willingly choose to receive your emails on a regular basis could easily turn into customers when they need an electrical job done.

However, it is simple to mess up all your effort if you make any of the mistakes below:

  • You’re trying too hard to sell: Do not try to sell your services via email. Instead, share useful information with them.
  • You aren’t using the right tone: Your emails, like all content, should be professionally written. Emails should be personal, but you shouldn’t use clickbait headlines or a friendly style. These will make your customers turn away as nobody likes being treated rudely.
  • You do not include your lead gen info: Include a link to your site and an invitation for them to get in touch with you if they have any questions.

Leaving behind the “don’ts,” contact information such as a phone number and email address, along with social media links, should be included on your website.

However, it should also include an email sign-up form for potential clients to guarantee they sign up for your regular emails and bring potential clients if you want this idea to work out.

You can gather the contact information of your current customers and ask them permission to send them emails once you have completed their service.

Once you have a list of emails, it is possible to start sending useful content. Send a variety of emails, but don’t send too many. You can, for example, send links to blog articles that provide helpful tips or discounts on services.

You can also create a referral program for customers who have used email marketing.

Referring clients can also be given a discount to encourage them to bring more people to your business.

Local Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

It is quite simple to understand for those who don’t know about search engine optimization (SEO).

It is the process that companies or individuals use to optimize websites to rank higher in search engine results for targeted keywords and phrases. Other factors influence how high you rank as well, but keywords are indeed the main ones to be considered.

But what is local SEO in specific? It is simply the option of focusing on keywords and aspects based on your location.

Suppose you’re an electrical company located in Miami. In that case, you can use keywords like “electrical services in Miami” so that your strategies will ensure that your business is found in relevant searches.

Local SEO is a great way for you to generate more leads for your contracting business. The top electricians use these techniques to rank higher on search engines’ results pages in your local area.

You can turn the tables by using the same strategies but with better implementation.

You should conduct market research to find the best keywords for your website and then optimize it accordingly.

Locating electrical leads for your construction business can be tough, especially if you do not live in an area with many serviced offices.

However, you can quickly attract new customers by staying in touch with your existing customers, expanding your services, and perhaps even joining a bidding site.

You can start by claiming your free Google My Business listing. You can update your profile to ensure your business hours, phone number, and directions appear on Google Search and Maps, add photos to your business and respond directly to reviews.

You can also establish relationships with bloggers or other influencers in the area that can share your content and link to your site.

This will help you bring qualified local traffic to your website to learn more about your services.

Invest in Pay Per Click (PPC) Advertising

PPC ads can be a great option for electrical business plans that have a large budget. They will drive targeted traffic to your site immediately and provide a high level of targeted traffic.

However, as we mentioned, it is for those with a larger budget than usual since you have to invest enough to obtain the desired results.

Is it worth it, though? Absolutely. A recent study found that PPC is one of the most effective marketing strategies for electricians. It helps you connect with more people online.

The expensive part about it is the fact that you must bid to have your ads show up in sponsored results for queries that include your keywords, but you only pay for ads each time someone clicks on them.

The paid ads in search engines will have the word “AD” located right next to the title, and you can notice if your company and ads are appearing whenever you search for the keywords you established.

Now, PPC advertising is the best way to market a small business but also large ones, so if you have an audience and are generating leads already, you can still use it.

However, don’t get confused regarding spending the marketing budget on SEO or PPC. Make sure you decide according to your electrical contracting business plan.

PPC campaigns, unlike search engine optimization (SEO), which can take many months to show results, can drive qualified traffic to your site the instant they are clicked to go online, so this is the main aspect to keep in mind.

Outsourcing Lead Gen on Commission

Although you might be an expert in the electrical industry, your marketing skills are still lacking. If this weren’t the case, you wouldn’t be here (yes, we’re confident about it).

However, we understand that sometimes, it isn’t about not being a pro but rather your availability. So many things are left to be done that you cannot find time to invest in your lead generation strategies.

When this happens, relying on lead generation companies isn’t a bad idea.

It isn’t about buying leads but rather hiring someone who can handle your strategies and set the website and all your platforms to generate them.

No matter your situation, a contract with a lead generation firm can prove a worthwhile investment.

These companies will save you time and make the job easier, and since many of them are on commission, there’s no need to worry much about payments.

They don’t charge flat fees and are focused on getting more work for you. This will allow you to grow your business faster.

Just remember to take the time to choose the right one for your needs.

Your Website Must Generate Leads

Electrical companies and individuals often underestimate the importance of a high-quality website and search for the lowest-priced options.

A well-designed website will give you more credibility, and no one can deny this, even less the person trying to sell you a cheap website.

It’s no secret that modern customers are more likely to hire someone with an attractive and user-friendly website. Therefore, make sure to ask your chosen web developers to primarily focus your website on lead gen, including such elements as an email subscriber list.

Additionally, some web design agencies also offer marketing services, thus removing the need for a specialized marketing agency.

You will receive two services at a lower price than if two agencies were hired. If you don’t intend to market your business, this is an option that you should consider.

Now, part of making your website a place for leads is also about the entire aesthetics. Ensure it looks great, that it isn’t all about buttons, and instead, guarantee your designers are focusing on the essentials with great design.

Participate in Local Online Communities

You can connect with many new customers through social media forums and groups. Connecting with others was never this easy, and we know you can agree with us.

Therefore,  if you post comments or participate in communities, you can achieve a lot. Just keep posting helpful comments and commenting on other threads.

You can also use this method of subtle advertising to help customers find electricians (aka, you).

Many businesses use a strategy to offer free consultations to users, and they’ll be more than happy to seek your professional assistance.

Recent research shows that people search these forums more than Facebook (in their main newsfeed).

Forums are a great way to find leads if you don’t have the time or energy to participate on all platforms.

If you, however, are comfortable with other platforms as well, there are still opportunities to promote your business using Facebook groups and others.

Just remember, you don’t have to publish daily on all platforms, and there’s no need to feel overwhelmed.

If you have a blog article that is relevant to the topic, find the most active in your area. Then share it with the community. This will not only direct them to your website but also give you quality backlinks.

Good backlinks are an important part of SEO. They passively help you get higher rankings on search engine result pages and save you time finding more content to share or having to go in a specific comment for some of the users participating.

Your Marketing Plan Needs Blogging

Unless you have engaging and organic content on your website, no strategy or skill will work.

Content is only as powerful as the number of visitors to your website or how many clicks you get to your blogs. Of course, we already mentioned this, so why would we go over it again?

Because among all the options in content marketing strategies, blogging is the most crucial one.

High-quality images and regular blogging are key to increasing your company’s Google rank.

They provide useful, informative, and relevant content to your website. Since Google rewards websites that provide valuable content and are consistent with their educational content, leads are naturally to come.

Blogging is beneficial from every angle. It can improve conversion rates and generate inbound links that will increase conversion rates as well.

Blogs can also be used to increase your online presence for your electrical business via social media.

Video Marketing Isn’t Impossible for You

It’s all about showing off your skills and solving electrical problems. Video marketing is a great way to promote your electrical services as long as you’re a bit smart with the content you’re creating through it (yes, here we go with content again).

Because more people interact with videos than ever before, it helps you promote your business online regardless of the niche. Therefore, electrical companies can take advantage of this.

Keep in mind your goals for the electrical business when creating a video marketing plan, and everything should go smoothly.

In the video, you can include information about your business or the USP of your company.

You can convert customers by sharing your video on multiple social media channels and emails, but make sure you’re not saturating your potential clients with it.

For long-term success, creating and sharing videos is not enough.

Google Analytics or YouTube can help you track the success of your video strategy, and you will be able to identify the key issues and faults in it.

Online Reviews = More Organic Customers

Online reviews are a powerful tool that can help or hinder your business.

Companies and recent results have proved that over 90% of customers have read online reviews before visiting a company website. As a result, online reviews can help you stand out in a competitive market.

Positive reviews on your website are a great way to increase the likelihood of customers being attracted to your firm. Although one negative review can doom your company’s image, it isn’t irreparable if you continuously fix it with good ones and improve your services.

But how can you keep track of the good or bad reviews? That can be the tough part.

However, these are just a few of the review platforms available that can help you with the process: Broadly Reviews, Podium, and Shopper Approved.

Customer Services in Your Strategy Is Needed

Everything that makes your electrical business successful depends on customers’ responses, decisions, reviews, and recommendations.

Customers will respond to your actions, not verbal promises, which is why customer service is a key component of any electrical marketing plan.

This helps reduce costs, increases revenue, and encourages customers to hire you for services once more.

Believe it or not, 8 out of 10 people want great customer service, even if that means paying a bit more. So, you ought to keep this in mind to bring more leads and convert them into clients.

And don’t get it wrong, this option can be used anywhere regardless of where your company is present, whether it’s via email, social media, or website live chat.

You Can Partner with Others

It may seem counterintuitive to partner with a company that sells to the same audience or a similar one, but it can work out quite well if you’re smart.

Huckberry is an example.

They team up with clothing retailers and sell exclusive versions of retailers’ items on Huckberry’s online store, and exclusive items are available only through them. The retailer gets exposure for their brand and another online platform to reach new customers in exchange.

Don’t Forget About Listing Sites

Listing sites can be the key for your company to be provided with a steady stream of leads.

Although the effectiveness of directories is different depending on the industry, marketers can gain an edge over their competitors by optimizing listings or being the first to be listed.

Your company of electrical services can list its services at several places in the digital agency market, such as Digital Agency Network, Clutch, and Agency Spotter.

Each directory represents an investment by the agency for a profile, but each of them is also a potential lead generation opportunity.

Directory listings are available on the internet for many different industries, and yours isn’t an exception.

Since there are many to consider, try to find the best one according to your needs and the audience you’re aiming for and ensure all the information is the same when signing up in each of them.

Your Social Media Has Different Audiences

Social media marketing can be a powerful tool but is often used incorrectly by simply posting or reposting the same content repeatedly in each of the profiles.

Each platform offers you unique opportunities to build relationships with customers and generate leads. Still, if you want to attract them, you must create content for the audience on each platform.

Also, are you a B2B or B2C electrical company? Are you aiming for residential or commercial services? These questions are crucial.

Because homeowners are already active on Facebook, residential electricians will be more profitable.

Facebook can be used to link to your blog content and drive traffic to the site. To communicate with potential clients, you can use Facebook’s chat feature.

LinkedIn is designed for professionals and will be more beneficial to commercial electricians.

Potential leads for commercial business include property managers, local business owners, contractors, and others. Post relevant content about your industry and engage in thoughtful discussion to expand your professional network.

The Local Lead Generation Process for Your Electrician Business

1- local lead generation, how does it work - damianmartinez.com blog

All right! So, everything is about building properties and generating leads. But how does the process actually take place? Are there other steps I need to know?

The steps I mention below are what students from our local lead generation program follow to generate leads for businesses like yourself. So I’ll help you see what we do. And how if you join our program, you can simply generate leads for your own business (unless you want to start a side hustle and build a laptop lifestyle business).

Essentially, our lead generation can be divided into four steps:

The first is prospecting. You need to take the time to do market research on a niche (industry) and determine how many phone-driven businesses are there.

Keep in mind that this is local research as you need to know how many companies need leads. For example, you may search for “plumbing services Youngstown OH.”

You will find dozens or even hundreds of businesses trying to get themselves in front of the customers by ranking on Map Listings, organic results, and even Ad.

The second step, building. When you find a niche (plumbing, tree services, a software company, real estate…), you will need to start building your digital properties. You don’t need to be an expert in HTML or coding. It can be easy with the right tools.

The third step is now taking time to rank your lead gen website. With the site done, you need to work on SEO strategies and start dominating those Google search results. If you’re new to SEO, it stands for Search Engine Optimization.

To keep it simple, it consists of the entire process of growing a company’s visibility on search engines like Google and generating organic traffic. And remember this, local lead generation is part of the strategies.

Moving on to step four, once you rank the site, you will start getting your ROI and profits. You only need to rent it out to a local business interested in the leads the site generates. You can offer a couple of free leads to their move on with the actual pay per lead.

To review steps 1-4 above, I described it to a normal student who is building a lead gen business to help local service providers generate more calls. But replace the student with you as the business owner. And replace sending the leads to a business to simply siphoning the leads to your personal business.

By the way, fun fact, about 20% of our students in our local lead gen program are actually business owners who went through the program. And they use the skillsets we teach to generate leads for their own business.

An Example of Lead Generation: Home Advisor

2- check out how home advisor generates leads - damianmartinez.com blog

You must be thinking, “if lead generation sounds so good so far, how come I haven’t seen any company?” That’s the thing; there are many out there. You just don’t know they are dedicated to it.

HomeAdvisor is one of the best examples you can find on the Internet as it is a top lead generation company that has spent millions building its brand but also earned even more zeros for this same reason.

They started small as everyone else but invested in building their brand awareness to make people who are looking for home services go to their website and find what they need. They are over 75% of people’s first choice when they need those services.

If you don’t get HomeAdvisor that much or need a refresh, users need to submit their information to request a service and get a professional or expert who can provide it.

HomeAdvisor’s job is to share your information, which makes you a lead, with local companies so they can contact you and offer the service you’re requesting. For sharing this lead information, HomeAdvisor gets paid by the companies. This happens for every single lead they send to multiple businesses.

Business owners who don’t have marketing skills or don’t even know how to have any online presence will always rely on those pages to list their services.  They will save time and effort, but companies like HomeAdvisor can make them spend lots of money as leads aren’t exclusive (one lead is sent to multiple companies after all).

Using Facebook Ads aka Paid Ad Platforms: Do They Generate Leads?

3- do paid ad platforms work, like facebook and google ads - damianmartinez.com blog

They DO generate leads. If not, no one would use them.

However, you need to remember two facts:

  1. Paid ads or platforms can be expensive.
  2. They don’t generate “natural” leads.

Whenever someone sees or clicks in one of those ads, over 80% of them did it by accident or are trying to close/report it.

Why? Because they aren’t looking for those services. At least not at the moment.

What those ads do instead is interrupt their time on the platforms. Users aren’t there to find companies or businesses unless they are searching for a specific company’s user, and for that, there’s a search bar. This is why it is hard to convert them to actual customers who will show interest in the companies’ services. Also, you’re limited by a budget.

When using lead generation, everything is organic. You aren’t forcing others to pay attention to your business but rather being there when they need you. This is why Google’s organic traffic will always beat paid ads, and the reason companies continue investing in it, which is a lot cheaper as well.

What Is Local SEO?

4- learning local seo - damianmartinez.com blog

Don’t worry… I didn’t get it at first either. Following the short explanation, local SEO focuses on scaling businesses’ visibility on search engines. However, this is only for those who serve their communities face-to-face.

What does this mean?

Experts and professionals like painters, plumbers, and dentists (but not only them) offer their services to their local customers. Why? Because they can’t deliver them unless they are located in the same area of their customers.

To make sure those businesses get more leads, you need to rank them locally by claiming the business listing on Google to place them on Map Listings. Local SEO also involves online reviews, citation management, and how you manage your entire online presence in the local area.

If you are going to bet on lead gen, you need to adapt yourself to today’s world: The Internet.

Keep in mind that although traditional channels and methods like billboards, warm calls, and pamphlets still work, they aren’t part of your tools. Whenever someone needs a service, they go to Google and search for it.

“Dentist in Miami” or “plumbing services in Orlando,” etc. And you can keep coming up with services or professionals people need and look for. Thus, you need to make sure you’re using Google to get the companies in front of their clients.

Users will always click on the first search results (those near the top), and many of them will be either Ad links (people paid to place their websites there), Map Listing, and then you get websites. Almost all of them are your goal and where you should always aim to place yourself.

Can My Electrician Business Utilize a Local Lead Generation Strategy?

5- using local lead gen strategies for any business - damianmartinez.com blog

If you want customers, you better know you need it. Following the previous explanation, lead gen is all about placing businesses in front of their customers, choosing them over their competitors.

Put it simply – it’s all about closing deals and having clients for those companies to make money. The main difference with the usual methods companies use for this is how lead generation approaches different channels to get them in the right place of the market to get customers.

Those channels are all focused on the Internet as most people are searching for products but also services across the net. The issue is that the Internet is way too broad, and businesses don’t know how to place themselves. They usually try, but they get one common result: losing money and time.

How Powerful Are Organic Electrician Leads from Google?

6- the power behind organic leads - damianmartinez.com blog

For companies looking for customers, it’s everything. For you? Pretty much the same. When you build a business with digital properties, you get to make thousands of dollars a month.

This isn’t a “get started today and get rich tomorrow” thing, but it is HIGHLY scalable, and ROI + positive results are guaranteed. Learning a fairly decent and very needed set of skills to create your digital properties and start ranking them on Google is required.

I have invested in several online businesses over the years, and if there’s something uncertain, whether you will get your ROI or not, even more than the actual profit.

However, this business moved my earnings from five figures a year to a month in ONLY passive income while sitting comfortably at home.

On my laptop. Anywhere. Anytime.

You can look at one of the first sites I built back in 2016, and it continues making me over $1.000+ every month. The best part is that I don’t need to touch it or the rest I’ve built over the years, just like this digital property.

What Makes Lead Generation SO Alluring?

7- the smartest online business today - damianmartinez.com blog

Here it goes: you can work from home.

The main issue with regular business opportunities is how much you need to invest in staff, equipment, or rent to have a place to sell your products or offer your services.

We all know the hassles of traditional businesses that involve regular expenses, which are extremely high.  Can you afford it? I don’t think so, and even if you can, is it worth it? Now, it isn’t only about the money. You also need to put in a lot of work, and it isn’t only during the first couple of months or years. Usually, it is as long as you continue running it.

You can save yourself those headaches and bone-breaking tasks and expenses with lead gen since it is more about generating leads with digital channels—mainly websites.

Websites can be VERY cheap to build, and with many tools online, you get to do it in a couple of hours instead of days. Any virtual or digital business is scalable and won’t need constant maintenance.

So, let’s summarize this:

  • You save money in regular expenses with traditional and most online businesses as what you need is yourself and digital properties (websites).
  • You can bet on passive income.
  •  There’s no need to hire more people to get started.
  • You can generate leads in multiple industries, which allows you to work on any niche you want.
